How do I send or receive money in Messenger?

You can send or receive money in Messenger (ex: send your friend $10 for lunch or receive $500 from your roommate for rent) after you add a debit card issued by a US bank to your account. Once you add a debit card, you can choose to enter your Facebook password to provide additional security the next time you send money.
To send money:
1.     Open a chat with the friend you want to send money to
2.     Click $ and enter the amount you want to send
3.     Click Next to add your debit card and then click Pay
Note: If you're using Payments in Messenger on your smart phone, first make sure that you have the latest version of the Messenger app installed. If you don't see $ , tap .. to find it.
To receive money:
1.     Open the conversation your friend sent you containing money
2.     Click Add Card in the conversation and add your debit card to receive money
Keep in mind your bank may take up to 3 business days to make the money available to you.

I can't send or receive money in Messenger.

If you can't send or receive money in Messenger, make sure you and your friend:
§  Live in the United States
§  Are at least 18 years old
§  Add a debit card issued by a US bank to your accounts
§  Set your preferred currency to US dollars
§  Aren't disabled from sending or receiving money on Facebook
Note: If none of these apply to you, this feature may not be available to you yet.

Will Facebook charge me to send or receive money in Messenger?

No, Facebook won't charge you to send or receive money over Messenger. This feature is free for everyone who can use it.

What payment options can I use to send or receive money in Messenger?

You can send or receive money in Messenger using a debit card issued by a US bank. We currently use debit cards so we can deposit the money you receive into your bank account.
Credit cards, prepaid bank cards and PayPal aren't supported right now.

Can I send or receive money in Messenger for my personal business?

No, sending or receiving money in Messenger should only be done with your friends and family. If you send or receive money in Messenger for your personal business, you may lose the option to use payments features on Facebook (ex: Payments in Messenger, ads).

How long does it take to receive money in Messenger?

Once you've added a debit card issued by a US bank to your account, money is transferred right away, but your bank may take up to 3 business days to make it available to you.
If you've been sent money but it hasn't appeared in your banking account after 3 business days, try contacting your bank by calling the number on the back of your debit card.

Can I send or receive money in a Messenger group conversation?

Yes, you can send money to or receive money from a single friend while in a Messenger group conversation.
To send money in a group conversation:
1.     Start a group conversation with your friends
2.     Click $ and select a friend you want to send money to
3.     Enter the amount you want to send and click Pay
Keep in mind everyone in the group conversation can see the amount of money that's sent or received.

Note: Payments in Messenger isn't available to everyone right now.
